0 112

The Glen Rock Chamber of Commerce recently introduced “First Fridays”, an event where the Community is invited to share a night of family-oriented activities which encourage residents and visitors to stroll, taste, sip and shop in a fun and friendly environment on the first Friday of each month. The evening features live music, food and beverage tastings, shopping, and more! Some shops may stay open a bit later than usual. New art shows, entertainers and strolling musicians will be added over time.

The inaugural event was held on Friday, October 6. Events were held downtown and at the Maple Avenue shopping strip.

Activities included live music, giveaways, special discounts, and food and beverage tastings. Participating merchants were identified by a smiley face☺balloon in front of their store.

The following merchants for participated in the inaugural event: Sparkle Jewelry, Perfected Kneaded Massage, The Grow-cery, Painting With A Twist, Carrick Mor, Bagel Gourmet, Gary Steven TaeKwonDo, Smoothie King, The Glen Rock Inn, Zen Rock Pilates, and Perry’s Florist.

Additional “First Fridays” events will be held on November 3rd and December 1st from 5 pm – 8 pm.

The annual Glen Rock Fall Festival was held on September 24 on Rock Road in downtown Glen Rock. Chamber of Commerce Treasurer Pat Zengel noted, “We really expanded the Fair this year. We encouraged all Rock Road businesses to participate in addition to our Chamber members. We had had lots of vendors, food, crafts, games and rides for the kids, a 40 foot long stage with live music all day in addition to a small stage for children’s performances. Despite the unseasonable warm day with temperatures in the high 90’s, everyone was there to have a great time!”

“Bagel Gourmet” held a Grand Reopening on Saturday, October 7. Mayor Packer and several Borough Council members and candidates were on hand to help “cut the ribbon” – donated by Perry’s Florist – and sample the fare.

Owner Joe Marrara began working at the shop in 1986 and assumed ownership in 1990. The “face” of the store, Rob Wilson aka “Coach”, has been working with Joe for over 30 years. Scott Jacob, previously from Town Deli, recently joined the team as executive chef as the lunch offerings have been expanded. Joe shares, “The store needed a change so I added a grill, expanded our offerings, spruced up the store and now I’m holding the grand reopening. I love this town. I have former employees who come back with their kids and its very inspiring.”

The Glen Rock Chamber of Commerce meets at the Glen Rock Public Library on the third Thursday of each month at 9:15 am. You can email the chamber at
