11-27-2017

2:53 PM – The manager of the CVS store on Rock Road reported confronting a woman who was in the process of shoplifting $218 worth of high end cosmetics.  The actor, a white female in her 20’s with long red hair fled the store prior to police being notified.  The manager was able to provide both video surveillance and a cellphone video of the suspect.  Detectives are attempting to identify the woman based upon the evidence provided.

3:45 PM –  P.O. James Donnelly arrested Jose L. Estrada age 41 of Paterson for armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.  This followed a failed shoplifting attempt which left a 28-year-old employee of the Super Fresh Market on Lincoln Avenue with a knife wound.

The incident began at approximately 3:45 PM when two store employees confronted Mr. Estrada who was attempting to shoplift 8 bottles of vodka valued at $287.  During the confrontation, the actor became combative and produced a 7-inch knife, which was recovered by the responding officers.  A physical altercation ensued during which the employee was cut with the knife.  The injured employee and his manager were able to subdue Mr. Estrada and hold him until P.O. Donnelly arrived along with Sgt. Frank Riggio and P.O. Annamarie Mattina.

Det. Mike Trover was able to recover video surveillance footage of the incident depicting events as they were described by the store employees.

Both store employees were treated on scene by EMT’s from the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, however, declined transport to the hospital.

Mr. Estrada was medically cleared at New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, following which he was processed at Glen Rock Police HQ and transported to the Bergen County Jail pending an appearance in Superior Court Central Judicial Processing.

6:23 PM –  A Belvidere Road resident reported that sometime over the past two days a Mongoose Mountain Bicycle was stolen from their garage. The garage was open and there are no known witnesses.

7:18 PM – Patrols responded with the Glen Rock Fire Department to a 9-1-1 report of a stove fire at a Maple Avenue residence.  Upon arrival P.O. Murray Yang was able to bring the fire under control with the fire extinguisher from his patrol vehicle.  Fire Fighters checked for a further extension of the fire and vented smoke from the home.  The cause was found to be unattended bacon which had been left cooking in a pan on the stovetop.

10:20 AM –  A 85-year-old Glen Rock woman reported that an unknown caller attempted to defraud her of out of money through the “grandparents scam”.  She received a call from a person claiming to be her granddaughter, alleging that she and her father had been involved in a serious motor vehicle accident and needed bail money.  This was followed by a call from a man claiming to be a lawyer representing the granddaughter.

The woman was aware of the grandparent’s scam and contacted her family in Florida to confirm that they were okay.  Afterwards, she contacted police to report the unsuccessful attempt.

11:17 AM – A Glen Rock woman reported discovering fraudulent changes on her credit card.  An unknown actor had purchased a tent valued at $761.90 on her husband’s eBay account and had it shipped to an address in Toms River.  The detective bureau is reviewing the transaction.

4:29 PM – P.O. Will Holguin arrested a 42-year-old Paterson man for shoplifting at Super Fresh on Lincoln Avenue. The actor had been confronted by store employees as he attempted to conceal 10 packages of cheese valued at $42.  The actor was also found to have an active $ 1,000 criminal warrant for his arrest issued by the Clifton Municipal Court.

The actor was processed at Police HQ and transported to the Bergen County Jail pending an appearance before Central Judicial Processing in Superior Court and disposition of the Clifton warrant.

6:32 PM – A Doremus Avenue resident reported that person(s) unknown had damaged his car while it was parked on the street overnight.  A passenger side view mirror had been broken.  A neighbor has a video surveillance system and an attempt is being made to see if the video system captured any images of anyone in the area.

1:23 PM – Sgt. Rob Wojtecki, P.O. Lucas Doney and P.O. Will Holguin assisted Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office with the arrest of CHRISTOPHER J. GREIG age 35 of Hawthorne on charges of Stalking, Contempt of Stalking Restraining Order, and Harassment.

The arrest took place in the Rock Road Central Business District where Mr. Greig is known to frequent.  He was taken into custody without incident and remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his arraignment, and is scheduled for a first appearance at Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court.

12-01-2017

8:50 PM – While on foot patrol in the Central Business District, P.O. Sarah Orsita observed a vehicle strike a building at 237 Rock Road.  She approached the vehicle and signaled the operator to stop, however, the driver ignored her and sped off through a crosswalk nearly striking two pedestrians.

While making her way back to her patrol vehicle, P.O. Orsita radioed a description of the vehicle to officers on patrol.  P.O. Murray Yang located and stopped the vehicle on Maple Avenue moments later.

The driver, a 51-year-old Glen Rock man, was subsequently arrested for DWI and transported back to Police HQ for processing.  In addition to DWI charges, the man was issued motor vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of an accident, failure to comply to directions of a police officer, open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, and failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.

The man was released to the custody of a sober adult in accordance with the provisions of John’s Law.

12-02-2017

10:16 PM – During the course of a motor vehicle stop on Lincoln Avenue near Isabella Place, P.O. Sarah Orsita arrested a 38-year-old Park Ridge man for DWI.  He was transported to Police HQ for processing and released to the custody of his wife in accordance with the provisions of John’s Law.

In addition to the DWI charges, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, and failure to maintain lane.
